Grammar Focus: Passive Voice (Advanced Forms)

Beyond the basic passive, B2 uses more complex passive structures:

  • Passive with modals: modal + be + V3: Steel can be weakened. The decision must be made.
  • Passive with present perfect: have/has been + V3: My bicycle has been stolen.
  • Passive gerund/infinitive: being + V3 / to be + V3: He hates being told what to do. Bridges are required to be inspected.
  • Impersonal passive (reporting verbs): It is said/believed that... / He is said to be...
