Grammar Focus: 'there is' and 'there are'
We use 'there is' and 'there are' to say that something exists. They are very common when describing places.
- There is — used with singular countable nouns and uncountable nouns. (There is a book on the table. There is some milk in the fridge.)
- There are — used with plural countable nouns. (There are two chairs in the room. There are many people here.)
