Can and can't are modal verbs. We use them to express ability, possibility, and permission.

  • can (ability/possibility): Subject + can + base verbI can swim.
  • can't (cannot) (inability/impossibility): Subject + can't + base verbI can't fly.
  • Questions: Can + subject + base verb?Can you speak English?
