Grammar Focus: Present Simple: 'have got'

We use 'have got' to talk about possession, relationships, and characteristics. It is very common in British English.

Positive sentences:

  • I / You / We / They have got (e.g., I have got a car.)
  • He / She / It has got (e.g., She has got a sister.)

Negative sentences:

  • I / You / We / They haven't got (e.g., We haven't got any money.)
  • He / She / It hasn't got (e.g., He hasn't got a job.)

Questions:

  • Have I / you / we / they got...? (e.g., Have you got a pen?)
  • Has he / she / it got...? (e.g., Has she got a pet?)
