Grammar Focus: Past Simple: Regular and Irregular Verbs
The Past Simple tense is used to talk about completed actions that happened at a specific time in the past.
- Regular verbs: add -ed to the base form: walk -> walked, arrive -> arrived, want -> wanted.
- Irregular verbs: have unique forms that must be memorized: go -> went, be -> was/were, eat -> ate, see -> saw, take -> took, come -> came, feel -> felt, have -> had.
Negatives: use didn't (did not) + base verb for all verbs: I didn't walk. She didn't go.
Questions: use Did + subject + base verb: Did you walk? Did she go?
